New Hard Disk Drive Handycam Camcorders From Sony Offer Long Recording And Easy DVD Burning

Three new entry level models feature 30GB and 60GB drives, bundled Handycam Station and long life STAMINA battery

The latest additions to the Sony Handycam range are easy to use, fun and above all, practical. Key features include:

Various recording mode and high capacity

Models DCR-SR30E and DCR-SR50E are equipped with 30GB hard disks, which gives them recording times from 20 hours 50 minutes in Long Play mode (3 Mbps) to 10 hours 50 minutes in Standard Play (6Mbps). Even in the High Quality 9Mbps mode, the cameras can record for a full 7 hours and 20 minutes.

If this sound impressive, the 60GB DCR-SR70E goes further still - from 41 hours 50 minutes Long Play to 21 hours 40 minutes Standard Play. The High Quality mode yields a proportionally generous 14 hours 40 minutes – an entire, long day’s worth of filming.

One Touch DVD Burn

When you want to download content from the camera to a PC, the bundled Handycam Station comes into its own. The Station connects to the PC via USB 2.0, providing a high-speed downlink which activates once the camcorder is seated in place. If desired, a single press of the One Touch DVD Burn button on the side of the station begins a completely automatic download-and-burn process. It really is that simple.

HDD Smart Protection System

To ensure your recordings are safe, the hard disk itself is multiply protected by the Sony HDD Smart Protection System. As you would expect, the first layer of defence against accident consists of specially designed physical shock absorbers, but there is much more. The 3G sensor can detect the sudden acceleration of a fall and instantly auto-park its heads, preventing them or the platters from being damaged by the impact. Better still, if you are filming at the time the camera will buffer the video stream until the drive is stable and operational again before writing the stored data to disk. Nothing will be lost.

STAMINA long life battery

Of course a camcorder is only as good as its batteries, which is why all three new Handycams feature exceptional battery life delivered by their Sony STAMINA battery packs. When maximum operating time is vital, the optional NP-FP90 battery provides the crucial extra reserves of power. Using it, the SR70E and SR50E will keep going for 6 hours continuous recording, while the SR30E can run for up to 7 hours. In other words, with one NP-FP90 and one spare, you can literally film all day.

DVDirect – the PC-free solution to burning

DVDirect is a Sony product designed to make life easy with DVD and HDD camcorders – without any need for a PC. DVDirect connects to the camcorder via USB and burns content onto single or double layer 12cm DVD (DVD+R format). A one-touch burn feature allows handy incremental transfers to disc. DVDirect will automatically detect new content recorded since the last transfer and only that will be copied over and burned onto DVD. Whether you want to consolidate multiple 8cm DVDs containing SD content onto a single 12cm disc, or archive content stored on HDD, DVDirect is the fastest, simplest stand-alone way of doing it.
